Obstetric Fistula is a traumatic childbirth injury that can have devastating
consequences for women. It occurs when there is a hole in the birth canal, often
caused by prolonged or obstructed labor without access to timely medical care.
The physical and emotional pain experienced by those suffering from Obstetric
Fistula is immeasurable. It can lead to chronic incontinence, isolation, and social
stigma. These women often face not only physical challenges but also
discrimination and abandonment by their communities.
According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), an estimated 2
million women in developing countries are living with untreated obstetric fistula.
It is a direct result of limited access to quality maternal healthcare services during
childbirth.
At AAFA, we are committed to making a difference in the lives of these women
through interventions funded by our generous donors. We aim to provide medical
care, support, and surgical interventions to help these women regain their dignity
and lead fulfilling lives. Together, we can make a profound impact on those
suffering from this devastating condition.
